New York City was lucky this summer to not have too many rainy days but it seems like Mother Nature is making up for it this season. But we like to look on the bright side, literally! There’s no better way to cheer yourself up on a gloomy day than by pulling on a pair of brightly colored rainboots. Luckily, Gotham has tons of options in stock now starting under $25!

If you’re looking for a little break from the norm, try these rain options out instead: rubber flats are a hot new trend right now.

Fun Facts About Kentucky & New York – The official state drink? and more!

9 06 2009

We’re lucky we chose Mayfield, Kentucky to open our first store. The people there are all so nice and we’re learning more about the residents and the state all the time: from dealing with the occasional ice storm and tornado warning, to having beautiful, open green landscapes, savoring the calm and unhurried atmosphere so unlike New York City, and seeing friends everywhere you go.

So, we wanted to have a bit of fun and share some interesting facts about Kentucky with our blog readers! Some of these topics we didn’t even know about our own state of New York so, of course, that led to us looking up information on our state too. We’re sure there’ll be surprises in store for natives of both states. For example, did you know the official state drink of both New York and Kentucky is milk?! (did you even know there was an official state drink?).  There’s even more below…

KY State Seal NY State Seal
  • The State Nickname of Kentucky is The Bluegrass State. New York gets two: the state is both The Empire State and The Big Apple.
  • The State Outdoor Musical of Kentucky is ”The Stephen Foster Story.” New York doesn’t have a State Outdoor Musical but the do host lots all over the city!
  • State Butterfly: Kentucky (below left) and New York (right)
  • Viceroy Butterfly

    Red-spotted Purple/White Admiral

  •  The State Dance of Kentucky is Clogging (!!) and the (maybe unoffical) State Dance of New York is the Lindy Hop
  • The State Flower of Kentucky is Goldenrod while New York has the Rose.
  • Kentucky has a State Tug-o-War Championship: The Forsdville (Ohio County), but sadly, New York does not.
  • New York has an offical State Muffin: the apple muffin, but Kentucky does not officially honor muffins.
  • A #1 brand bought at the Gotham City Designer Outlet in Kentucky is New Balance and a #1 shoe brand bought by our New York customers from our online store is Marc Fisher.
  • New Balance WA450 sneakers

Think you can top our fun facts? Tell us something interesting about New York and Kentucky by commenting on this blog (yes, you have to research both states like we did), and you could win a free $5 gift certificate to our online store, www.GothamCityOnline.com.  Hey, it looks like your 4th grade teacher was right, State Reports are totally useful in the real world!!  : )

My New York City!

19 08 2008

Welcome to my New York City! To introduce you to the sights, I thought I’d share some pictures of the things I see every day: the Empire State Building, Penn Station (not only a major train terminal but also the site of reality TV show tapings, giant movie posters and free sample handouts), millions of tourists and locals, the daily activities of the Fashion District (huge spools of fabric being rolled down the never-empty streets, buyers selecting swatches and fasteners, etc) and the legendary sidewalk food vendors!

And now for the part you’ve been waiting for … the shoes! Early in the morning, since the weather is still warm, I’ve seen many women (and some men!) wearing flip-flops. They all have their real day shoes tucked inside oversize handbags or totes for later, because when you have over an hour commute and then have to walk a few blocks (and NYC does not always have the most level streets and sidewalks, not to mention the heel-breaking grates!), why not enjoy that comfy style while you still can? In more casual work environments, some are choosing metallic gladiators instead to wear all day long!

What shoes will you be crying to give up when the weather starts getting brisk … or will you be braving icy toes until the snow falls? Let me know using the comment box below and I’ll post the results in my next blog! Until then, Cheers!

Style in the City!

29 07 2008

Gotham City Online has had tremendous success over the years thanks to all our fantastic customers and lately we have not been able to keep all our shoes in one closet, as the saying goes. After selling over 1,000,000 shoes since 1999, it was time to relocate our warehouse to a new, state-of-the-art (and larger!) shipping and processing facility in Kentucky. Our team of fashion experts, however, had already been on the look-out for a hip new office in the place they’d visited so often to find the latest styles for you: New York City.

We are happy to announce that we have found an amazing office in the heart of New York City’s Fashion District, the fashion capital of the world! Even better, we have decided to share the excitement and energy of this dynamic neighborhood with you via this brand new blog. Why should we be the only ones who get to enjoy this new fast-paced atmosphere with trendsetters on every corner and some of the best shoe stores in the world?! If you can’t get to the Big Apple, we’ll bring it to you.

In this blog, we hope to bring you all the latest fashion trends direct from New York City (of course), real pictures of shoes we find on fashionable people walking around the city, surveys on what other people are thinking, plus lots more fun stuff to help you experience the action. Please share your suggestions with us, we would love to hear about what you would like to see and read in our blog.

Cheers, Chloe (aka GothamGirl)
